The morning light transcends dreams,
Its’ nimble fingers dancing across the eyes’.
Playful with delight.
Feverish and bright, dragging at our sleep.
Battling with nightmares,
Breathing warmth into our mindscape,
And leaving all fantasies incomplete.
Unsatisfied I wake,
Chasing shadows and smoke.
Trying to catch the wisps of fading dreams,
Realities that could have been.
Bittersweet and wild,
A sultry touch, a vicious bite.
Cold are its arms, pulling me from the warmth.
Dragging me across worlds to corporeality,
Pulling at the threads of my sanity.
I twist and turn,
A battle lost,
For I never wake alone.
My fears and despair,
All asleep unaware.
They jolt through the depths of my mind.
Brought to life,
The slumbering beasts,
Trample across my soul,
Leaving it maligned.
Throwing off my blanket of dreams,
I squint into the brightness.
Blinking away sandman’s magic.
The day settles into my bones,
I sigh in weariness,
Defeated,
Swallowing my groans.
Walking and stumbling,
A drunkards’ parody.
I make my way through the day.
Floating and drifting,
Smiling through it all, my frustration dance upon the surface.
A beacon to madness,
I dream myself galaxies away.
The wind dances across the window,
A gentle kiss upon the glass.
The cruel light cuts across the trance,
Breaking my teacup world.
My existence no longer safe in the arms of floating dreams,
I resent the cruel dance.
Crawling through the twilight,
I make it through daybreak.
A pitiful attempt to survive,
A daunting mountain to cross,
I breathe through the heartache.
Words cluster around me,
Thoughts confound me,
I make it through it all.
I wait for the night,
A promise of silence and serenity.
The closest to peace,
A gift from Hypnos, sign of his lenity.
Worries fade away, a brief respite.
I drift in tranquility,
The grains of sand begin their fall.
I hold onto them greedily,
As the morning light rushes to take them all.
