The Fleeting Companion

The derpiest doggo we ever knew
.
.
.

Fingers outstretched
With a tired sigh,
I turned off the alarm,
And relished the quiet.
Just then a soft yip,
Steady clicks across the floorboard,
The sound of life and companionship.

I got up and peeked out,
And there she was,
Standing with her paws perched over her pen,
Eyes brimming with all the joy in the world,
Shaking my head in amusement I patted her head
As you joined in,
Cooing at her antics.

Time held no meaning,
The days flew by,
It was just us three,
Laughter, play, and love,
Her, you, and me.

Evenings revolved around her
Soulful eyes,
Mischievous heart,
There wasn’t a moment
She stood still,
I watched, exhausted
As she chased you around
For days on end.

Every morning at 6
We woke to happy little barks
And yips,
Then one day I turned off the alarm
To complete silence,
I peeked out,
And there was no one.

She left just as quickly as
She had come,
A tiny life full of love,
Our fleeting companion,
Your spirit burned brighter than most.
