The Invisible Monster

The silence hung heavy
As she lay between the sheets,
The whispers grew louder
And the silence soon turned to shrieks.
The unsaid and unspoken
Soon took shape and form,
Regrets and remorse
Sharper than daggers,
Kept her warm.

The voices a jumble of words,
Worries, fears, lies and dreams,
All bundled under a single dainty ribbon
Masquerading underneath the cloak of sanity
The smile covered her screams.

She crept through life in a fog,
The words tangled in threads of fear
Stories waiting to be painted in colors vibrant,
Yet weighed down by anchors unseen,
The soul fought harder than the body did,
In an empty battlefield where she stood alone,
Caught frozen and friendless
She stared in to the unknown.

The world seemed to swirl
As she stood still,
The leaves froze under the icy sheen
As the tears fell,
Tracing the path of the lost,
She blinked, breathed
And the world crumbled.

Painted in black and white
The girl imitates a fallacy,
Her poor attempt
To drape herself in the cloak of acceptance
A joy forbidden to many,
To dip into jars of love and life,
A canvas of color
Tinting the black and white.

The colors soon sunk in
Flesh, bone and skin,
Stripping her layers
Burning her from within,
Drenched in shades of others
Sins of another,
Something was amiss,
The discontent grew,
The loss significant
As she realized,
Black and white
Was what she felt at home in.
