Ananke

Mercy and love the gods bestowed

.
.
.

Paths merged and submerged in chaos
Springing from the hands of fate,
A map with no direction we followed
Led by the hand of Chronos alone,
Dusted in the sands of time
And wrapped firmly in his coils,
All our tomorrow’s faded into today
Yet we hungered for another day

Wrapped in the shadows of Erebus
Under the guidance of Nyx
Wanderers lost in the night
Traversing paths unknown and unseen,
Chanting verses unheard by Apollo
A pale glow lit by the Muses,
Our dreams radiant in their hands,
A promise of home,
A brief respite

Embraced by Gaia
Loved by Hypnos,
Afloat in the arms of Morpheus,
Adrift in the land of peace,
Judgements by none,
Though lost we found a home
A place to build our world,
Iron and bricks forged into shape
Hephaestus lent us his mercy

Sowing in the seeds of harmony
Demeter enriched the land with her bounty,
Delirious with happiness we spun in circles
Dizzy and drunk we fell into a trance
Dionysus filled our cups with laughter
Just as Artemis blessed our hands
We were hunters of the land
Sure footed and firm
Yet we still felt like a prey

Though blessed by Athena
Knowledge of the worlds,
We still doubted, still feared
Our hunger for more
Rivalled that of the giants
We were never content
Eris smiled as she watched us unravel
The careful nest that Hestia built
For what mattered home
When we could have more

The melody played
As her hips swayed
All heads turned as Aphrodite walked in
She woke a need far deeper than greed
Weaving a net of love,
Casting it upon us
She bound us to one another,
Laughing in delight at her game
I tripped, fell, and drowned in your arms,
A story as old as time,
Eros crooned
Euphoric
Binding us tight

Zeus watched amused
Ruffling his pale feathers
As our souls merged as one
You were Hades to my Persephone
An escape from reality
A port in the storm
Poseidon shook the Earth
His rage fearsome
We stood alone,
Treading for realm to realm
In you I found home,
Calm and relieved
I breathed you in,
Feeling heady
But for all our relief
We forget,
We are all touched by Ananke
